This is step 2 of my �gHow to Install Citrix Presentation Server 4�� guide. This shows you in simple steps how to install the Citrix  Metaframe License Suite which composes of the License Server and Console.
This article is for Step 2 - Installing and configuring the Citrix License Server
Before running through these instructions please note the following assumptions I have made:

You do not currently have a Citrix License Server (Probably no Citrix servers at all.)
You are installing to a Windows 2000/2003 server.
You have the relevant software and licenses.
Your server meets the minimum requirements needed by Citrix.
You have completed Step 1 - Planning Your Deployment

Step 2 - Installing the License Server

First of all ensure you have the correct CD. Unlike most software Citrix has different installation CDs for Windows 2000 and Windows 2003. Citrix Presentation Server will not function without a valid license server so the first thing to do is install the Citrix license server and license. You need to decide whether the Citrix license server will be on a standalone server or on a server doing something else, such as running Presentation Server. It is a question of resources. As a general guide if you have a large farm of over 50 servers then you might think about installing the license server on an independent server. There are of course other considerations such as how busy your servers and how many users there are.

Prerequisites
Now you have decided what server to install the License server on there are some other prerequsites we need to install first.

ASP.NET
IIS 6.0

The above two pieces of software are included with Microsoft Windows Server but not installed by default. To install perform the following:

i.) Click Start, Control Panel, Add remove Programs.
ii.) You will see a button to the left called Add/Remove Windows Components. Click this.
iii.) Select Application Server and click on the Details button.
iv.) Tick the box by the WWW service.Click OK.
v.) Click the box by ASP.NET and click OK.

This will require the Windows 2003 Server CD but not a reboot.

Now these components are installed we can crack on.

1.) Stick the CD in the drive and wait for it to autostart or click setup. You will see the following screen. Select Product Installations and Updates.

2.) Click on the option to install Metaframe Access Suite Licensing.

3.) Accept agreement and click Next.

4.) You then see the box below. Apart from ASP which we have already installed it installs the rest for you anyway so click Next.

5.) Just select Metaframe Access Suite Licensing as below as we will be installing the others in later steps. 

6.) Advising you to close down anything else you may have open. (Good advice so if you have anything else open close it down.)

7.) This shows the two components you are installing which are the License Management Console and License Server. The management console is where you configure the license server from. We are going to do it from the same server as itmakes administration easier (Most people do it this way.) The management console is actually not necessary as it can all be done from a command line and it is the console that requires IIS, not the license server as most people think.

8.) We will leave the install folder as default.

9.) Select IIS server. As you can see you do have another option.

10.) We will click on OK to restart IIS as there are no users currently using this server. If it may cause you a problem you may have to leave as do not restart and do it in your own time.

11.) Click Next and go and get a coffee.

12.) It now Shows the successful install box below, click Finish.

13.) You get a summarised view of what you have installed. Click Finish again.

14.) You have now successfully completed the installation of the Access Metaframe Licensing Suite. You now need to download and Install the relevant licenses.
