Troubleshooting license errors in Citrix

Troubleshooting license errors in Citrix. No licenses installed etc.

Troubleshooting

License Error.
There are no licenses installed for the use of this MetaFrame Presentation server.
No license server is installed.
Out of available licenses.
The server has reached its license logon limit

Troubleshooting License Issues is normally relatively straightforward. If you see any of the above error messages or similair then first of all check the following.

Is there a license server installed?
Stating the obvious really but there needs to be one one, needs to contactable, try pinging the server (by name).
Is the IMA service running?
Check the IMA service is running on the Citrix server with the errors, try restarting it.
Do the names match?
This is very important and a mistake I have made myself. The Citrix licenses are case sensitive. If you rebuild/replace a server and call it the same name but in a different case then this will not work. Solution is either to rename the server or check the license(s) back into MyCitrix.com and run through the reallocation process.
Is the correct Metaframe version set?
This is also very important. This has to match the version in the license. To check the version go to the Citrix Management Console, right click the server and properties.
Have you made any changes in the licence file?
The only thing that can be changed are ports. If you change nything else you will corrupt the license. Solution is to download the license again from MyCitrix.com
Is the Citrix licensing service started on the license server?
If not try a manual start or reboot.
Are the ports open if behind firewalls?
Check the ports in the CMC (27000 by default) and check these are open. A good way is from a command prompt type “telnet servername 27000.
Use Netstat to ensure there is a connection to Citrix.exe

Citrix License Console
This is accessed by installing the license management conole from the Presentation server CD.
If you are logging on to the Citrix License Management Console and can only see the Welcome screen you need to logoff and back on again as the person who originally installed the console. You can then go to the administration section and add other users and rights etc.

Important Tip - If you are still experiencing problems then contact Citrix support. License issues are FREE!!!

Please note this article refers to Citrix license problems only. I will shortly be adding Terminal Services licensing issues to this post.
